GDAL related problems

Q: I got an error message like this one:

error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

A: This happens, when GDAL isn't installed properly.

Possible solutions:

  • Check if GDAL is installed (locate gdal). If not, install GDAL.
  • Check if the directory which contains your libgdal is listed in your /etc/ If not, add the directory with a texteditor to the file and run ldconfig as root.
  • Check if the rigth version of libgdal is installed. If there's a newer version, you can just create a symlink to new version (ln -s
