My first project

I am interested in learning customizing maps and also applying a few logic steps.

1) I want to take some raw US government data and print a nice map.

2) I want to combine some components into a new shape (Take the 435 congressional districts and produce the 50 states)

Any advice or mentoring would be greatly appreciated.
